Demonstrative Adjectives

This, that, these, and those are often called demonstratives or demonstrative adjectives.

-This and these are used to talk about people or things that you are very obvious in the situation that you are in.

*I like this college.
*I´m going to walk up these steps towards you.

This - singular
these - plural

You use that and those when you are talking about things or people that you can see but are not close to you.

*How much is it for that big box?
*Can you move those books over there?

Determiners - Articles

a - you use a when the following word begins with a consonant sound.

*...a piece, ...a good teacher, ...a language class.

an - you use an when the following word begins with a vowel sound.

*...an apple, ...an example, ...an early train.

the - goes with singular countable nouns, singular uncountable nouns, and plural nouns.

(when something is referred to for a second time)

* Have you read the books I brought to you last month?
* Did you put the water in the fridge?
